Local Foods, Local Places: Federal Assistance for Sustainable Communities
This program aims to help rural communities integrate strategies for local food efforts into their economic action plans. Eligible rural projects should help revitalize downtowns, main street districts, and traditional neighborhoods by supporting farmers' markets, food hubs, community gardens, community kitchens, and local food enterprises. USDA Grant Program - The Community Connect program serves rural communities where broadband service is least likely to be available, but where it can make a tremendous difference in the quality of life for citizens. The projects funded by these grants will help rural residents tap into the enormous potential of the Internet. Application period is closed.
National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Fund's Technical Assistance Program allows groups to receive technical services with an approved vendor (we're on the list). Technical services can be engineering, planning, social marketing, etc. The process is the same as previously - approved vendors can apply to benefit an organization. The beneficiary only receives the technical services not any direct grant funding. Therefore, organizations should consider the project and amount of involvement required. Dates vary through Sept. 2015.
Brownfields Assessment and Cleanup Grant Guidelines
These brownfields grants may be used to address sites contaminated by petroleum and hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants (including hazardous substances co-mingled with petroleum). Opportunities for funding are as follows: Brownfields Assessment Grants (each funded up to $200,000 over three years; Assessment Coalitions are funded up to $600,000 over three years) and Brownfields Cleanup Grants (each funded up to $200,000 over three years). Please note that applicants who received an Assessment grant from EPA in Fiscal Year 2014 (FY14) are eligible to apply under this competition. If the applicant was a member of a coalition that was awarded a grant in FY14, that applicant is also eligible to apply under this assessment competition. Application period is closed.
Brownfields Training, Research, and Technical Assistance Grants - Grant funds awarded to eligible entities to provide research, training and technical assistance to communities facing brownfields cleanup and revitalization challenges. Application period is closed.
Brownfields Area-Wide Planning Grant - The EPA is announcing the availability of funding to eligible entities who wish to develop an area-wide plan for brownfields assessment, cleanup, and subsequent reuse. This funding is for research, technical assistance, and/or training activities directed to one or more brownfield site(s) located in a specific area (such as a neighborhood, district, local commercial corridor, community waterfront or city block). The EPA anticipates awarding approximately 20 projects in total, funded at up to $200,000 each. Please note that applicants who received a BF AWP grant from EPA in Fiscal Year 2010 or 2013 (FY10 or FY13) are not eligible to apply under this competition. Application period is closed.
NPS Chesapeake Bay Financial Assistance Awards - Public water access site development projects that advance the development of designated Gateways water trails, the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail, and/or the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail are the funding priority for fiscal year 2014. Technical Assistance for Integrated Planning (EPA) There will be $335,000 in technical assistance available for communities seeking technical support to develop and implement an integrated planning approach to meeting Clean Water Act (CWA) requirements for municipal wastewater and stormwater management. Land and Water Conservation Fund State and Local Assistance Program - National Park Service - The National Park Service provides matching grants to states and through states to local governments for the acquisition and development of land and water for outdoor recreation purposes. Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER)
The FY 2014 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant round is now open. The goal of the SAFER grant program, offered through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is to assist local fire departments with staffing and deployment capabilities in order to respond to emergencies, and assure that communities have adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards. The objective of the FY 2014 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is to award grants for critically needed resources to protect the public, train emergency personnel, foster interoperability, and support community resilience. Eligible activities include training; equipment and personal protective equipment; wellness and fitness; modifications to facilities; and the acquisition of new, custom, or stock program compliant vehicles. Rural Access to Emergency Devices (RAED) Grant Program - The purpose of the RAED Grant Program is to develop community partnershps to purchase automated external defibrillators (AEDs), provide defibrillator and basic life support training, and place the AEDs in rural communities with local organizations. Funds to Address Violence Against Women - The Grants to Encourage Arrest Policies and Enforcement of Protection Orders Program provides support to encourage governments and courts to treat sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking as serious violations of criminal law requiring the coordinated involvement of the entire criminal justice system and community-based victim service organizations. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) - Disaster preparedness, firefighters and emergency services, and planning and preparedness.
Hazard Mitigation Grants - FEMA announced $180 million in funding available through two Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) grant programs: Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) and Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM). These two grant programs assist state, local, tribal, and territorial governments in strengthening our nation’s ability to reduce the potential cost of natural disasters to communities and their citizens. FEMA's HMA grant programs provide states, tribes, territories, and local governments funding for eligible mitigation activities to strengthen our nation’s ability to reduce disaster losses and protect life and property from future disaster damages. Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control (LBPHC) Grant Program and Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration (LHRD) Grant Program - Application period is closed.
HOPE VI Main Street Program - HUD will provide grants to small communities to assist in the renovation of an historic or traditional central business district or "Main Street" area by replacing unused commercial space in buildings with affordable housing units. The objectives of the program are to (1) redevelop Main Street areas; (2) preserve historic or traditional central business district or Main Street area properties by replacing unused commercial space in buildings with affordable housing units; (3) enhance economic development efforts in Main Street areas; and (4) provide affordable housing in Main Street areas. The application deadline is Aug. 27.
Economic Development Assistance Program- This program of the US Economic Development Administration (EDA) provides grants to support job creation in economically distressed areas of the United States. Investments can support the construction or rehabilitation of essential public infrastructure and facilities. EDA grants can also support green economic development, including renewable energy or green building projects, as well as green infrastructure, energy efficiency, and recycling projects. The Our Town grant program through the National Endowment for the Arts supports creative placemaking projects that help to transform communities into lively, beautiful, and resilient places with the arts at their core. This funding supports local efforts to enhance quality of life and opportunity for existing residents, increase creative activity, and create a distinct sense of place.
