Construction Camp for Girls

Isett’s Lehigh Valley location recently hosted a field trip of female students interested in learning more about the construction, architecture, and engineering trades.
Let’s Build Construction Camp for Girls visited as part of their week-long camp to learn more about the company’s multi-discipline engineering and consulting services. The campers participated in equipment demonstrations led by Isett’s Survey and Construction Materials Testing departments and learned about the work that the Forensic Building Investigation department performs through a presentation over lunch. Emma Yeh, PE, in Isett’s Municipal Engineering Services department, was the lead facilitator and organizer of the group on behalf of Isett.
Team members from Survey demoed the equipment they use on a day-to-day basis and shared how the survey data they gather informs the entire design process, while Construction Materials Testing went into a deep dive on concrete strength testing and how the department ensures that work is constructed per the approved plans and specifications of each project.
Let’s Build Construction Camp for Girls is a free, week-long camp designed for middle- and high-school aged girls to explore construction trades, architecture, engineering, and construction manufacturing through hands on experiences and field trips. The Camp, now in its seventh year, takes place annually each summer and draws campers from throughout the greater Lehigh Valley region.
