New Report Looks at Producer Responsibility for Plastic Pollution

December 1st, 2022

On behalf of the members of the Chesapeake Bay Commission, I am writing to share our most recent policy report, produced in partnership with the Chesapeake Legal Alliance: Extended Producer Responsibility for Plastics Packaging: Opportunities in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed (PDF Link).

We all know that the Chesapeake continues to inspire people daily, but it cannot escape the impacts of plastic pollution. The linked report examines steps that can be taken to address the proper disposal of plastics packaging, creating better and more effective recycling systems while lessening the burden of pollution on the Bay. Extended producer Responsibility presents an opportunity for a comprehensive statewide or regional approach to waste resulting from packaging.

The Chesapeake Bay Commission is a tri-state legislative body, comprised of state legislators, gubernatorial representatives and citizens from Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.  The Commission works to advance policy, at all levels of government, to restore and protect the Chesapeake Bay.  By law, we serve as a liaison to the Congress.

Please feel free to share the policy report with your colleagues at all levels. We also encourage you to reach out with any questions.  We want to get this information on the minds and in the hands of those who can most influence this process. Let's work together to achieve a restored Chesapeake Bay.
