Transportation Alternatives Grant Program Open Through Oct. 15June 29th, 2021
The PA Department of Transportation will accept applications for the 2021 Transportation Alternatives (TA) Set-Aside Program until Oct. 15, 2021. Pre-applications are due Aug. 15, 2021.
About $18 million is available for projects that enhance pedestrian and bicycle facilities, improve access to public transportation, create safe routes to schools, preserve historic transportation structures, provide environmental mitigation, create trails that serve a transportation purpose, and promote safety and mobility.
There is a minimum award of $50,000 for construction projects. The maximum award is $1,000,000, although higher awards can be justified on a case-by-case basis for “exceptional” projects.
Since the last round of applications in 2018, a new application system has been developed. The system includes a new mapping tool which uses the same mapping platform as PennDOT Connects.
The TA Set-Aside guidance document has been updated to reflect the changes to the application system as well as incorporate revisions based on feedback received from the Districts and Planning Partners from past rounds. These items will be housed on PennDOT’s website here.
All participating large MPO selections and all District and Planning Partner application review comments will be due January 7, 2022. The statewide project selection committee will meet in January 2022 to recommend projects for receipt of statewide TA Set-Aside funds.
