PennDOT Community EV Charging Funding Rounds

May 5th, 2026

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advancing the next phase of its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure strategy through the Community Charging Funding Rounds initiative. This program will distribute approximately $100 million in federal funding through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program to expand access to publicly available EV charging stations across communities throughout the Commonwealth.

Unlike earlier funding efforts that focused primarily on building out charging infrastructure along major highway corridors, this initiative is designed to bring EV charging directly into everyday community settings. Priority is placed on highly visible, publicly accessible locations such as downtown districts, retail centers, public parking areas, parks, and other destinations where residents and visitors live, work, and spend time. The goal is to make EV charging more convenient and integrated into daily life while supporting broader economic development and sustainability efforts.

Funding will be released through a series of regional rounds across Pennsylvania—including Southeastern, Western, Central, and Eastern regions—on a rolling schedule throughout 2026, with project awards extending into 2027. Eligible applicants include a wide range of entities such as businesses, nonprofit organizations, and other qualified partners. Projects may cover the full spectrum of development, including planning, design, construction, operation, and long-term maintenance of charging stations. PennDOT also encourages collaboration among stakeholders and offers tools such as an Interested Organizations Survey to help connect potential partners and strengthen applications.

  • Application Deadline (Southeastern): August 2026
  • Anticipated Awards: Fall 2026
