Throop Borough Celebrates 125th Anniversary

Throop Borough, Lackawanna County, was recently honored by the county commissioners for its 125th Anniversary, which was celebrated June 29 and 30.  Incorporated in April 1894 and named for noted Civil War surgeon Benjamin Throop, the borough of 4,000 is part of the state’s anthracite coal mining industry. Mayor Joe Tropiak is working to distinguish Throop by petitioning for the borough to have its own Zip code.
